What the Bible Says About Peace

There are so many things in our troubled world that rob us of peace, and we don’t have to look far to find them.

The world is rife with war, disease, natural disasters, political turmoil and modern-day slavery. There are so many people displaced, hurting, broken and dying.

And those are just the things happening outside of us. What about our personal struggles? Conflict in our families and relationships? The insidious presence of mental illness?

There’s so much going on in the world, and it can be overwhelming. Whether we’re struggling with troubles in our own lives or feeling the barrage of bad news every time we look at the headlines, peace can feel elusive – if not impossible.

All that can leave us wondering, “How can we find peace with everything going on?”

Well, here’s some of what the Bible has to say about where we can find our peace. Hover on the links below to read the verses:

  • God makes us dwell in safety - Psalm 4:8

  • God refreshes our souls and helps us to rest - Psalm 23:1-3

  • As God’s people, He blesses us with peace - Psalm 29:11

  • Loving and obeying God’s commands allows us to rest in His peace - Psalm 119:165

  • Jesus is our Prince of Peace - Isaiah 9:6

  • God keeps in peace those who trust in Him - Isaiah 26:3

  • God has established peace for us - Isaiah 26:12

  • Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins brought us peace - Isaiah 53:5

  • Jesus offers us rest - Matthew 11:28

  • Jesus leaves us with His peace - John 14:27

  • Jesus has already overcome the world - John 16:33

  • Jesus comes to offer peace - John 20:19

  • We have peace because we know we’re saved - Romans 5:1

  • The kingdom of God is one of righteousness, peace and joy - Romans 14:17

  • We can have peace because one day God will defeat evil once and for all - Romans 16:20

  • God is not a God of disorder - 1 Corinthians 14:33

  • Peace is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, which is within us - Galatians 5:22-23

  • Jesus Himself is our peace - Ephesians 2:14

  • God’s peace is available to us all - Ephesians 2:17

  • The peace of God transcends all understanding and guards our hearts and minds - Philippians 4:7

  • We can let His peace rule in our hearts - Colossians 3:15

  • He is the Lord of peace - 2 Thessalonians 3:16

  • God cares for us and is big enough to carry the weight of our anxieties - 1 Peter 5:7

It’s one thing to know that God brings us peace, but it’s another to feel it. Are you needing peace in your life?

Let’s ask God to give us a renewed sense of His presence and peace. And, when we feel anxieties arise, as they so often do, let’s remember to give those anxieties to Him because He cares for us.

Why don’t you try picking one of the verses above that stands out to you and writing it out somewhere as a reminder of the peace God offers us? You could put it by your bedside table, in your wallet, on your mirror, in your car, or some other place that will be a daily reminder of where we can find our peace.
